Happy holidays! ‘Tis the season for our Fall 2021 wholesale recap on sales, best-sellers, and trends. We’re pleased to report the demand for designer resale items like the Chanel Classic Flap Bag and the Hermés Birkin haven’t slowed down at all — in fact, we’re seeing quite the opposite. As brands like Chanel continue to raise prices, boutiques and resale businesess like yours immediately dove in to scoop up whatever stock they could handle to beat the inevitable price increases and the holiday rush.

With supply chain shortages top-of-mind — driven by factors like factory closures, shipping container shortages, backups at the coasts, worker strikes, and other cost-cutting measures — one of the key shopping trends this holiday season is the growth of hybrid shopping as consumers go in many different directions to locate inventory and get the best prices.

TOP FIVE LUXURY BRANDS THAT DOMINATED RESALE THIS FALL

It should come as no surprise that overall, our best-selling brands were Louis Vuitton, Hermés, Chanel, Gucci, and Dior, and this trend remained consistent throughout our entire platform (wholesale stock and auction).

THE BESTSELLERS ON WHOLESALE STOCK & AUCTION

As of November 2021, Louis Vuitton is our top-selling wholesale brand, followed by Hermés, Chanel, Gucci and Dior. Each brand has its timeless designs like the Speedy, the Classic Flap Bag, the Birkin, Gucci Jackie, and the Dior Lady Dior, and while designers consistently launch new items in a rainbow of hues, monogram prints, and materials, neutral colors like black, white, grey, and camel tend to be a more in-demand option in fabrics like leather, goatskin, and exotic skins.

LOUIS VUITTON

Louis Vuitton was tied with Chanel as our best-selling brand this fall with 30% of our total sales with styles like the Monogram Speedy, the Alma PM, the Twist MM, and the Neverfull MM, PM, and GM leading the site.

CHANEL

Chanel was neck and neck with LV as our best-selling brand for fall 2021 with 30% of our total sales. Buyers were grabbing items like the Medium Classic Double Flap Bag, the Single Classic Flap Bag, the Wallet on Chain and the Medium Boy Bag.

GUCCI

Coming in strong at #3, Gucci drove 13% of our total sales with handbags with all things Marmont and GG Supreme leading the way. Bags like the GG Marmont Flap Bag, the Gucci Boat Pochette, the Joy Messenger Bag, and the vintage Web Velcro Clutch boosting sales the most.

HERMES

Hermès was our 4th best-selling brand this fall with 10% of our total stock sales with the Birkin 35, the Kelly 35, and the Evelyne driving most of the sales, but accessories like the Clic Clac H Bracelet and the Carre Silk Scarf also helped boost sales.

DIOR

Rounding out the top 5 is Dior which accounted for 5% of our total sales with the Dior Book Tote, and the medium Dior Lady Dior boosting their sales profile.

TRENDSETTERS mc_q3_trend_08.jpg

While our best-sellers shouldn’t come as a surprise to you, brands like Van Cleef & Arpels, Prada, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, and Tiffany & Co. are also moving up the list. And thanks to new Creative Directors taking over the reins at luxury brands, such as Kim Jones at Fendi, new life has been breathed into these design houses which have created new trends, and in some ways made them cool again.

And even though Karl Lagerfeld famously said trendy is the last stage before tacky, we all know without trends the fashion industry would be pretty boring. What’s fashion week without deconstructed designs, a kaleidoscope of prints, blinding neon, and the occasional dash of ridiculousness (hello, the Jacquemus Le Chiquito).

Well, the runways at the Fall/Winter 2021 fashion shows were awash with eccentric accessories and casual cool handbags like bucket bags, oversized carryalls, crochet, and work totes as seen at Prada, Fendi, and Saint Laurent.

  • BUCKET BAGS - While Louis Vuitton’s Noe Bucket Bag has been referred to as the original, bucket bags have gotten a much-needed facelift for 2021 and 2022, and that includes the Mansur Gavriel too. This season they’re crafted in smooth leathers with glossy finishes, contrast stitching, and eye-catching embellishments.
  • OVERSIZED CARRYALLS - Ultra-roomy totes in slouchy silhouettes will still be big (literally and figuratively) for 2022 and beyond. Whether you’re heading to the gym, the office, or hitting the road for a long weekend, these essential, fashionable carryalls have been updated in puffed and quilted designs with unique touches like chains and ties, in a wide range of materials.
  • CROCHET - While it’s too early for crochet and raffia bags — unless you live at the beach — this crafty, artisan-inspired trend will be huge again in 2022. These easy, breezy bags will make a reappearance in a wide range of colors, details, and materials.
  • CLASSIC TOTES - As we head back to the office, the perfect work tote will become a weekday essential all over again. From the Dior Book Tote to the Fendi Peekaboo, and the Bottega Chain Leather Tote, these structured, briefcase-like carryalls were all over the runways.
